The 2019 Legislative session started out promising for criminal justice reform advocates. Several bills had broad, bipartisan support as both Republicans and Democrats recognize the growing need to address Arizona’s incarceration crisis.

2017 Legislative Update – March 10, 2017
The start of the New Year also marks the start of a new legislative session in Arizona, as in many states around the country. The First Regular Session of Arizona’s 53rd Legislature opened on Monday, January 9th. So far, 1,144 bills, memorials, and resolutions have been introduced.
Solitary Confinement and Mental Health Reform
The ACLU of Arizona is taking an active role in reforming Arizona’s prison system. To do that in the most effective way, we are working through the Arizona State Legislator to pass reforms to solitary confinement and prisoners’ mental health care.
