PHOENIX – The ACLU of Arizona is celebrating District Court Judge John W. Sedwick's ruling this morning finding the state's ban on marriage for same-sex couples unconstitutional.

PHOENIX – Arizona governor Jan Brewer today vetoed a controversial law that would have opened the door for discrimination against any group based on religious objections. In particular, SB 1062 would have allowed businesses and service providers to refuse to serve LGBT people.

Full-time Arizona State University student and activist Monica Jones and her attorneys, with support from the American Civil Liberties Union and Emmy-nominated actress Laverne Cox, filed an appeal today of her conviction under Phoenix’s “manifesting” intent to engage in prostitution ordinance.

PHOENIX – The ACLU of Arizona calls on Gov. Jan Brewer to veto the unnecessary and discriminatory SB 1062, passed today by the Arizona legislature.

Today, in an effort to remove discrimination from Arizona’s Constitution and win the freedom to marry for all couples in the state, Equality Arizona, the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona, the Human Rights Campaign and Freedom to Marry launched a campaign called Why Marriage Matters Arizona.

NEW YORK – The U.S. Supreme Court today ruled that section three of the so-called “Defense of Marriage Act" is unconstitutional and that the federal government cannot discriminate against married lesbian and gay couples for the purposes of determining federal benefits and protections.
