As the 2026 general election quickly approaches, we’re seeing more of the same: election deniers vying for power, conspiracy theories being pushed at the highest levels of government, and widespread mis- and disinformation about election procedures and outcomes.  Just as in past election cycles, engaged and activated citizens are a critical part of the fight to defend our democracy. During the 2022 midterm elections, nearly 300 candidates who refused to accept the 2020 presidential election results appeared on ballots, reaching about 60 percent of voters nationwide.
