PHOENIX — A domestic violence survivor and single mother of two filed a federal lawsuit today against the city of Surprise, Ariz., for a law that pressures landlords to evict tenants who place more than four calls to police in 30 days or for crimes occurring at the property.

FLAGSTAFF – An Arizona law that made it a crime to panhandle peacefully in public places was declared unconstitutional today, as was Flagstaff’s practice of arresting, jailing and prosecuting people who asked passersby for money or food.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona today filed a lawsuit on behalf of an elderly Hopi woman who was arrested for begging in Flagstaff and a volunteer-run organization that feeds the hungry, claiming the City of Flagstaff’s effort to rid city streets of beggars is unconstitutional.
