In addition to his journalism work, Alex has taught at the University of Arizona in both the Department of Spanish and Portuguese and the School of Journalism.

A proud Tucson native, Alex has a twin sister whom he calls his best friend. He is also the son of two immigrants—his father from Mexico and his mother from Cuba. Alex earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Arizona and later returned to complete a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies. As part of his graduate work, he conducted field research in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2021, exploring the complexities of LGBTQ+ political activism. While the conversation highlights the motivation among LGBTQ+ voters to participate in the upcoming election, it also unpacks some of the real challenges members of the community can face in the voting process – especially trans voters. Jenny shares useful information to make sure all eligible Arizona voters are prepared to make their voice heard before, during, and after Election Day and also touches on how allies can best support LGBTQ+ voters.
