Over the past 100 days, we’ve witnessed countless attacks on our rights and liberties since the second term of the Trump presidency began. At the same time, state lawmakers have mimicked the federal agenda at every chance they could during the 2025 legislative session. Make no mistake: this is a calculated effort designed to instill fear and suppress opposition in alarming ways. But the ACLU was made for this moment. We have confronted these assaults at every turn, and supporters like you have been right there with us.
“Whether you called your lawmakers, donated on Arizona Gives Day, or showed up to a Know Your Rights training, your action has been integral in this fight, and we can’t stop now. In the coming months and years, your support will continue to be crucial to make sure our state officials, lawmakers, governor, and yes — even the president — remember that they answer to The People.”
– Victoria López, Executive Director at the ACLU of Arizona
Since January, I asked ACLU of Arizona staff to share what is giving them hope at a time when defending civil rights and liberties has become considerably more difficult. We also discussed ways that you, our supporters, can take action.
Angel Medina, Communications Coordinator
After inauguration, we saw the influx of headlines and social media content that created more fear and chaos than solutions. As a result, we wanted to ensure our supporters had the tools to advocate for their rights in response to our new reality. As our resident social media expert, I knew I had to set the stage with a classic, but important call to action: follow us on social media for updates on how to take action.
Amanda Mollindo, Director of Communications
Amanda shared her experience growing up in a community that was highly surveilled by Border Patrol. She shared how, with the continued attacks on the immigrant community in our state and nationally, it was important we kept our communities informed on their rights.
Katelynn Contrera (she/her), Policy Strategist
Katelynn shared her experience at the Arizona Legislature and how extremist lawmakers are trying to pass bills that infringe on our rights. She highlighted the importance of calling, writing, and meeting with your legislators to make your voice heard.
Ayanna Desquitado (they/them), Organizer
Ayanna shared how they have heard from community members and volunteers about the importance of allyship and action to protect the LGBTQ+ community from government attacks. They highlighted the importance of educating ourselves about the rights we and our neighbors have.
Shelby Jackson (she/her), Philanthropy Associate
On April 1, Arizona Gives Day, Shelby shared why she donated to the ACLU before becoming a staff member and why she continues to donate now. Shelby highlighted how your gift to the ACLU of Arizona is just one of many ways you can help us in our mission and in this fight. That same day, we were amazed to find out that we exceeded our goal and raised $22,131 raised by 111 supporters!
Noah Schramm (he/him), Immigrants’ Rights and Border Policy Strategist
This legislative session, there are many bills that would force our state to comply with Trump’s dangerous anti-immigrant agenda. Noah highlighted the impact this legislation would have if passed and prompted our supporters to take action and urge our governor to use her veto power to protect Arizona’s immigrant communities. Over 1000 supporters have sent a message and there’s still time to take action.
100 days down, and we’re just getting started!
We concluded this series with reflections from Executive Director Victoria Lopez, whose video is at the top of the page. With your support and action, we have worked around the clock to monitor harmful bills, block attacks on civil liberties, and champion policies that promote justice and equality for all. The fight does not stop now and we need you with us. Let us know how you want to get involved by filling out this volunteer interest form!
