Bio
Alex Gonzalez joins the ACLU of Arizona with extensive experience as a multilingual storyteller and skilled communicator. Before joining the organization, Alex worked primarily as a broadcast journalist, covering a wide range of issues across the Southwest. He developed a strong interest in stories related to democracy, LGBTQ+ rights, and in amplifying the voices of marginalized and underrepresented communities. In addition to his journalism work, Alex has taught at the University of Arizona in both the Department of Spanish and Portuguese and the School of Journalism.
A proud Tucson native, Alex has a twin sister whom he calls his best friend. He is also the son of two immigrants—his father from Mexico and his mother from Cuba. Alex earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Arizona and later returned to complete a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies. As part of his graduate work, he conducted field research in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2021, exploring the complexities of LGBTQ+ political activism. When he's not working, Alex enjoys going to the gym, spending time with family and friends, and exploring new destinations.
