Bio
Tara DeGeorge spent over a decade as a public defender in Maricopa County where she represented people with serious mental illness, juveniles tried as adults, and individuals facing devastating immigration consequences as a result of criminal charges. Tara has litigated complex constitutional issues in trial courts, the Arizona Court of Appeals, and Arizona Supreme Court including cases involving due process in mental competency proceedings, fairness in grand jury practices, and limits on prosecutorial authority. She has worked closely with community organizations and directly impacted individuals as well as engaging in some legislative advocacy on issues related to juvenile justice and participated in statewide efforts to eliminate juvenile life without parole. Originally from New York, Tara holds a Bachelor of Arts from Skidmore College, and a J.D. from ASU Sandra Day O’Connor School of Law.
