I support the ACLU because the preamble to our constitution adopted by our founders included the objective of “forming a more perfect union”. Drafted in 1787, it was an impressive document full of enlightened ideas and ideals. It described a nation that did not then exist, leaving future generations to continue the process of perfection.
Since its inception in 1920 the American Civil Liberties Union has evolved into the premier organization that represents the interests of all the people within our borders in moving our country ever closer to those promises made over two centuries ago. In that time the ACLU has not only worked to make our country live up to its ideals but has influenced the way those ideals are interpreted and applied, to the benefit of all Americans.
I am honored and proud to play a modest role in furthering the work of this vital and essential organization.
