GET INVOLVED

Voting Rights Campaign
Purpose: to promote the fundamental, democratic right to vote for all citizens by eliminating state-imposed barriers to voting, and ensuring the accuracy, accessibility, security and recountability of voting technology.

Sp
ecial Activities:

  • Voter Protection activity at polls on Nov. 4
  • Poll Worker Training for Nov. 4 (via Az Advocacy Network)
  • Voter Empowerment Card distribution (campuses/org drop offs; etc.)
  • Arizona Rights Restoration Coalition participation

Membership Committee
Purpose: to build the membership of our organization and be a consistent presence in the community by distributing the most recent ACLU material on our priority issues.

Special Activities:

  • Table at community events
  • Research events and a track the committees events calendar

Racial Justice Campaign
Purpose: to combat racism in all its forms by educating and empowering the public on civil liberties  issues that affect people of color, and to specifically raise awareness about the continuing problem of racial profiling across Arizona.

Special Activities:

  • Participate in Nuestros Derechos coalition and help organize KYR forums
  • Distribute Know Your Rights info and bust cards via neighborhood canvassing
  • Help with outreach & possibly attend the NILC event on Oct. 24
  • Arizona Rights Restoration Coalition participation

Students Rights Campaign
Purpose: to provide our youth with the tools and resources needed to develop their ability to advocate for their own rights and liberties.

Special Activities:

  • Work with CHAT on eliminating “abstinence-only” programs in Arizona schools.
  • ACLU Scholarship outreach
  • School to Prison Pipeline coalition work
  • Research & contribute to our upcoming Students’ Rights Handbook

Observer Committee
Purpose: to protect the civil liberties of political activists by monitoring protests and demonstrations and documenting the illegal or improper conduct of law enforcement.

Special Activities:

  • Join the on-call response team for protests, demonstrations, raids, etc.
  • Work with board members & volunteer attorneys to organize training schedule
  • Election protection activities on Nov. 4

LGBT Rights Campaign
Purpose: To influence public opinion on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights through reforming state policy and advocating in our local communities.

Special Activities:

  • Join the No on Prop 102 campaign
  • Next year’s LGBT Community-wide conference
  • Lobby public officials to pass civil rights laws that prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation.

ACLU2 Campaign
Purpose: This is a new program that other affiliates are currently trying out; to engage and involve young professionals between ages 20 to 40 to participate in monthly events designed to address current social issues concerning the protection of civil liberties.

Special Activities:

  • Organize Young Professionals events that incorporate art, pub life, and stimulating conversation.
  • Utilize on-line outreach tools to promote events, actions, and campaigns.
